“Be Nice”

I catch myself saying this a lot to my girls… especially #4—affectionately referred to in our house as “Shiva”… as they battle for attention and jockey for position. But through some random experiences and varying reading, I’m questioning the wisdom of that phrase more & more. (more…)

I must confess, I love reading “mommy blogs”… sometimes I relate better there than I do to a Newsweek article.

Baggage

Driving home from work the other day, I passed a homeless man on the street. He was carrying all sorts of trash bags & backpacks filled with heaven knows what.

Something crossed my mind after seeing him—I wonder what’s in those bags? I wonder if he has to carry all of that stuff with him to survive on the streets? Or is he just like me, carrying around a lot of junk that really is unnecessary just because I haven’t taken the time or exercised the effort to throw it out?

Then-since I like metaphors-I thought about my kids & their “baggage”. What are they carrying around with them & is it necessary?
